Rajesh Gill – ‘The 7 to 7 Man’
It has come out in the news recently how Rajesh Gill, known in the City as the “Seven to Seven Man” as he managed to turn a starting post of £7,000 into £7 million in 2 years, had been awarded £20 million by MF Global, his broker for deceiving him about the losses that he was making which resulted in him almost wiping out his account.
I find this story incredible for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the fact that he was able to turn £7,000 into £7 million in such a short space of time. I would love to know how on earth this guy done this as incredulous as it sounds. Good funds will return you 10% – 30% a year if they are good.. how on earth did this guy get this sort of return?
The other thing I find incredible is how on earth did he make so much money if he wasn’t even able to keep track of his profit and loss?! Surely, at the end of the day, a trader will be aware of these fundamentals and know if he (or she) is winning overall (or losing). In the news reports, it did mention that he MF Global bungled some of the trades he was making so perhaps he was keeping track but MF Global were screwing up so much that the trades that he thought he was making bore no reflection to his account. If this is the case, I don’t know how it came to be that MF Global was screwing up so badly, aren’t all calls to your broker recorded just in case of any mistakes?
Anyway, I’m sure in due course a lot more will come out about the story and a lot more about Rajesh Gill or Raj as he likes to be called. To all aspiring traders, we all dream of this sort of return in just 2 years.
I haven’t been able to find out too much info on him as yet except that he is 37 years old and is a self taught trader. He was educated in the UK at Kings College between 1991 – 1994 and got a BSc in Business Management. He also has a Masters degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He is one of the City’s most prolific traders and made over 100 trades even on his wedding day.
